Bico has been making ice cream like no other since 1901. Our vision was to make the most extraordinary ice cream the Caribbean has ever tasted, a spoonful of luxury to escape the everyday. And to get there we only used the highest quality, carefully selected ingredients.
1900
The company was purchased on May 24, 1900 for 1,135 pounds by J.R. Bancroft and others who then formed a new company called the Barbados Ice Company. The company produce ice and offered cold storage services.
1968
In 1968 the ice cream manufacture was then discontinued at Bay Street and transferredd to the new factory at Habour Industrial Park. On 28th December, 1976 the company changed it’s name to Bico Limited.
2000
During 1999 and 2000 the retail sales fleet was transferred to former employees who became self-employed operating a fleet of vehicles in addition to the wholesale delivery vehicles which supply supermarkets, shops and hotels.
2009
in August 2009, much of the BICO factory was destroyed in a major fire. It was a tragedy for BICO employees and families. Bico has rebuilt a new, modern factory within two years and now servicing more than before.
2023 & beyond
We are cautiously confident that these upcoming years, barring the unforeseen, should be one of further progress and improved results with our cold storage facility, food service, and vegware products.
